Bookmobile Features

The Bookmobile travels throughout Trumbull County, with a regular schedule of community stops each week; see the schedule posted above.

The interior of the Bookmobile is spacious and bright with a large selection of library materials. The truck holds approximately 3,500 books, large type books, DVDs, and compact discs, including fiction titles, audio books, and movies.

The Bookmobile overall is 34 feet 4 inches long. The cab is a 2020 Freightliner M2, with a 24-foot box that holds the Bookmobile’s collection of items. The passenger side has an exterior awning, and there are two solar panels on top of the vehicle.

The outside graphics on the truck represent the many materials library cardholders can borrow from the Bookmobile, such as books, movies, and music. The opening musical notes of Ohio’s official Rock Song, “Hang on Sloopy,” are depicted on each side of the truck.

Pop-Up Library

The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library’s new Pop-Up Library vehicle offers patrons an additional opportunity to access library materials and resources beyond the library building.

The W-TCPL system in late 2022 was awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Education to help fund a new literacy outreach initiative. A key part of the Student Engagement Initiative is to use Pop-Up Library services to provide collections and programs for the growing needs of schools and students in Trumbull County.

The Pop-Up Library allows staff to take programming such as summer reading activities to places where families may already be visiting, including schools hosting summer enrichment programs, day camps, parks, and shelters. You’ll see the Pop-Up Library throughout the community at public events like parades, farmers markets, activities in the park, and community festivals.

The W-TCPL’s full-size Bookmobile continues to serve rural communities and neighborhoods with a regular schedule of stops throughout Trumbull County. The Pop-Up Library provides an additional opportunity for residents to connect with library materials and services outside of library walls.
About the Pop-Up Library

The vehicle can hold approximately 500 books along fixed shelving installed on the sides of the interior, and nearly double that number on portable carts.

Visitors to the Pop-Up Library can sign up for a free library card and borrow books that can be returned to any W-TCPL library.

The custom outreach vehicle was built by Matthews Specialty Vehicles of Greensboro, NC, and took nearly 2 years to complete.

The Pop-Up Library is 9 ft. 10 inches high, 24 ft. long, and features a 2022 Ford Transit-350 HD shell with a back lift gate.
